What does it mean to network using social media?
Artificial intelligence, automation, robotics, and the Internet of Things all changed our lives in various ways as new technologies emerged (FutureLearn). The possibility of long-term social alienation was also increased by the pandemic. As a result, our current systems and the knowledge and skills we learn in school are no longer adequate to prepare us for a world that is constantly changing. We need to carefully consider how to raise our own level of digital and network literacy instead. Besides, we should focus our learning on building our Personal Learning Networks (FutureLearn).

How are we motivated to participate in networked publics?

Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Facebook, stated that “people influence people. Nothing has more of an impact on people than a recommendation from a reliable friend (Zuckerberg et al., 2012). We all take part in the network due to the growth of the Internet and social media. Communication with friends is the primary motivation for the majority of us. People now rely on the text, image, audio, and video uploaded by others on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, TikTok, and other social media platforms to learn about new things and expand their worldviews. Additionally, we all had experience using Zoom or Microsoft Teams to hold remote classes or meetings during the pandemic.

What are the risks & rewards of public communications?

Is the Internet a holocaust or the result of human civilization? This is an inquiry.

Online communities on social media have the potential to bring us closer together. It enables us to exchange a variety of photos, happy memories, and happy moments. Additionally, it encourages community development, friendship formation and maintenance, and communication across international borders.

Social media altered our lives, but it also had negative effects like addiction, stress, anxiety, and even depression. The Social Dilemma, a Netflix documentary, focuses on how powerful social media companies use algorithms to manipulate users and foster platform addiction.
